First graders are learning about the weather and especially wind in Science Lab. Students built their schooners with index cards, straws, and different shaped sails. Then they tested them by seeing how many breaths it took for the boat to sail one meter. They recorded their data in graph form. Next they got to redesign and make a better sail for their boat using information from the graph to guide their decision.
